Why convert MP3 to VTT here

VTT preselected

Files you start on this page open the export with VTT already chosen, so the download is one click once the transcript is ready.

Speakers and timestamps

Every line keeps its time in the recording. With speaker labels on, each cue carries a voice tag, <v Speaker 1>, which web players can style. Turn labels off for plain captions.

Edit before you export

Correct names and words in the transcript editor, then download. Click any line to hear that moment.

Every other format too

The same transcript exports to TXT, Word, PDF, SRT, VTT, CSV and JSON. Paid plans, the Weekly Pass and your first file can also translate it.

MP3 to VTT: what you get

MP3 to VTT in three steps

  1. Upload your MP3 file. The spoken language is detected for you, or pick it from the list.
  2. Wait for the transcript. Progress shows on the page.
  3. Open Export. Files started on this page open with VTT selected. Set the options and download your WebVTT caption file.

What is an VTT file?

VTT (WebVTT) is the caption format of the web: the file the HTML5 video player, most online course platforms and many streaming players load for captions.

  • The HTML5 <track> element on your own site
  • Course platforms and video hosts that ask for WebVTT
  • Accessible captions for training and product videos

What is inside the VTT file

The file opens with the WEBVTT header, then one cue per spoken segment of the transcript, each with its start and end time. Timing uses a dot before the milliseconds, which is the main difference from SRT.

Voice tags keep who said what inside the captions without adding the name to the visible text in players that support them.
