Upload a video or paste a link and download SRT subtitles
No account? The first 30 minutes of any file are free. Create a free account for premium on your first file.
Generate an SRT file from a video: upload MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV, or paste a link to a public video, and download subtitles timed to the speech. Then upload them to your video host or burn them in.
Why convert video to SRT here
SRT preselected
Files you start on this page open the export with SRT already chosen, so the download is one click once the transcript is ready.
Speakers and timestamps
Every line keeps its time in the recording. Speaker labels can be kept at the start of each cue or turned off before you download.
Edit before you export
Correct names and words in the transcript editor, then download. Click any line to hear that moment.
Every other format too
The same transcript exports to TXT, Word, PDF, SRT, VTT, CSV and JSON. Paid plans, the Weekly Pass and your first file can also translate it.
How it works
Upload your video
The audio track is taken from the video for you. A link to a public video works as well as a file.
Get the transcript
Speech is transcribed with timestamps, and with speaker labels on the premium engine. Check it in the editor.
Download SRT
SRT comes with your first file, the Weekly Pass or a paid plan.
Video to SRT: what you get
Video to SRT in three steps
- Upload your video or paste a link to it. The spoken language is detected for you, or pick it from the list.

- Open Export. Files started on this page open with SRT selected. Set the options and download your SRT subtitle file.
What is an SRT file?
SRT (SubRip) is the most widely accepted subtitle format: a plain text file of numbered cues, each with a start time, an end time and the words spoken in that span.
- YouTube, Vimeo and Facebook caption uploads
- Video editors such as Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro
- VLC and most desktop players, as a sidecar file next to the video
What is inside the SRT file
Each cue in the file is one stretch of speech from the transcript, numbered from 1, with times in hours, minutes, seconds and milliseconds. A blank line separates one cue from the next.
The cues follow the transcript as the engine split it, one cue per spoken segment. Long segments stay as one cue, so if your player needs short lines, split them in the subtitle editor before you publish.

| 00:00:00,500 --> 00:00:02,100 | Start and end time, with a comma before the milliseconds |
