Which kinds of Latin it covers
- Classical Latin read aloud
- Ecclesiastical (Church) Latin
- Latin in classrooms and language courses
One Latin setting covers these. Latin has no native speakers, so this setting is for readings, lessons, liturgy and recordings of texts.
How Latin transcripts are written
Transcripts use the Latin alphabet without vowel length marks (macrons).
In our test on a reading of Caesar's Gallic War, the free preview was closer to the printed text than the account transcript, which dropped some double letters (Gali for Galli). Compare with the source text when you have it.
What people transcribe in Latin
Lessons and courses
Recorded Latin lessons become text students can read along with.
Liturgy and chant
Spoken parts of Latin services become text with timestamps.
Audiobooks of classical texts
Readings of classical authors come back with timestamps you can use to line up text and audio.
Tip for Latin recordings
If you have the printed text, use the transcript mainly for timestamps and compare word by word. Double consonants and endings are the parts to check.
Translate a Latin transcript
Open a finished transcript in your dashboard, choose Translate and pick a target language from a list of 99+. You get the translated lines with their timestamps, and you can copy them or download TXT or SRT.
Translation needs an account. It is included on paid plans and the Weekly Pass, and with the first file on a free account.

FAQ
Are macrons added?
No. Transcripts are written without vowel length marks.
Can I translate a Latin transcript?
Yes. Use Translate on a finished transcript in your dashboard. Treat machine translation of classical Latin as a draft.
Is there a sample transcript on this page?
Not yet. We only publish samples made from audio we can confirm is in the public domain. We tested this language with our own test recordings, on both the free preview and a signed-in account, before adding the page.
Is the Latin transcription free?
Yes. Latin files run on our premium engine with speaker labels, up to 2 hours a month on a free account. You can transcribe up to 30 Latin files a day, up to 30 minutes each, for free, and your first file can run up to an hour. Reading, copying, the full editor and TXT downloads stay free. Action items, email drafts, AI summaries and DOCX, PDF, SRT, VTT and JSON downloads come with your first file, the Weekly Pass ($9.99 for 20 hours over 7 days) and paid plans. Full-length files from $8.33/mo billed yearly.
