How Welsh transcripts are written
Transcripts use Welsh spelling with ŵ, ŷ and other circumflex vowels, and apostrophes in short forms.
In our test on read sentences, the transcript kept short forms such as Dyma'r and chi'n, and the circumflex on ŵ. Mutations at the start of words (for example g to ng) are the main thing to check.
What people transcribe in Welsh
Broadcasting and podcasts
Welsh programs come back with timestamps for captions and show notes.
Schools and universities
Lessons in Welsh become text that learners can read along with.
Public bodies
Meetings held in Welsh become minutes, which you can translate to English.
Tip for Welsh recordings

FAQ
Are mutations written correctly?
Mostly, but they are where errors show up. Read the first letters of words after small words like y, fy and ei.
Can I translate Welsh to English?
Yes. Use Translate on a finished transcript in your dashboard.
Is there a sample transcript on this page?
Not yet. We only publish samples made from audio we can confirm is in the public domain. We tested this language with our own test recordings, on both the free preview and a signed-in account, before adding the page.
Is the Welsh transcription free?
Yes. Welsh files run on our premium engine with speaker labels, up to 2 hours a month on a free account. You can transcribe up to 30 Welsh files a day, up to 30 minutes each, for free, and your first file can run up to an hour. Reading, copying, the full editor and TXT downloads stay free. Action items, email drafts, AI summaries and DOCX, PDF, SRT, VTT and JSON downloads come with your first file, the Weekly Pass ($9.99 for 20 hours over 7 days) and paid plans. Full-length files from $8.33/mo billed yearly.
